Chelsea Planning Summer Raid For Barcelona Full-Back Dani Alves

glish Premier League side Chelsea are keeping tabs on the availability of Barcelona full-back Daniel Alves, and could be set to make a summer swoop for the defender.

The Brazilian is generally regarded as one of the best right-backs in the world, and was an integral part of Pep Guardiola’s Treble-winning side last season, having joined from Sevilla for £29m.

However, The Sunday Times reports that the Blues are ready to offer Alves a substantial wage increase to lure him to Stamford Bridge, and will test Barcelona’s resolve with a bid in the region of what they paid for the 26-year old in 2008.

The London club has suffered defensive injuries this season, in particular Jose Bosingwa, who has missed the majority of the season, and Carlo Ancelotti sees Alves as a more consistent replacement.

Alves has yet to open negotiations with Barcelona with regards to extending his current contract, which expires in the summer of 2012, which could open the door to a Chelsea offer.

Alves is expected to be part of the Brazil squad that will travel to South Africa for this summer’s World Cup.
